Phagwara, Dec 22 (PTI) A man was today arrested for allegedly demanding dowry from his wife and subjecting her to repeated physical violence for not getting the money. On the complaint made by Bhabiana village resident Manjit Kaur her husband Jagjit Singh was arrested a case under relevant sections of IPC registered against him, Phagwara SP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh. Jagjit's father Swaran, who has also been booked in the case, was yet to be arrested, the police official said. According to Manjit, she was married to Jagjit about five years back and since then he and his father had been harassing her for dowry. She stated that her husband and in-laws recently raised a dowry demand of Rs 50,000 to purchase a new truck. In the complaint, Manjit has claimed that at the time of marriage the in-laws had raised a demand for a motorcycle, which her parents failed to fulfil. She alleged that her husband and in-laws subjected her to physical violence for failing to meet their demands. PTI Corr CHS KAS
