Coimbatore, Nov 10 (PTI) A leading laparoscopic surgeon in the city was recently honoured by University San Americas of Peru, the oldest university in the world. Dr C Palanivelu, Director and chief surgeon of GEM Hospital, here was conferred upon the Honorary Fellowship by the University, during VIII International Congress of Endoscopy surgery, held at Lima, Peru. Talking to reporters after his return, Palanivelu said he was invited as faculty to talk on cancer esophagus and pancreas cancer and scarless laparoscopic surgery during the Congress. +This is for the first time an Indian (doctor) is honoured in Latin America,+ Palanivelu claimed. Peruvian Society has entered into an MOU with Gem Hospital for exchange of faculty and training programme in Gastrointestinal and Minimally Invasive Surgery, he said. PTI NVM RC
