Jaunpur (UP), Feb 16 (PTI) Five pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh, returning from the Kumbh Mela, were killed and eight injured in a collision between their jeep and a truck in Jalalpur area here, police said today. The dead included three women, SP Manjil Saini said adding the accident happened on the Lucknow-Varanasi National Highway near Ijari village late last night. The jeep carrying 14 pilgrims, all hailing from Ujjain in MP, was trying to overtake the truck when the mishap took place, Saini said. The driver of the truck, which dashed against a tree, was also injured, the SP said. The dead were Mahngi Yadav, aged 55, Nirbhay Yadav (60), Ahilya (36), Lalita (70) and Lalita Devi (50), Saini said. Three of the injured were referred to Varanasi, the SP said.
