After that I will speak out at an appropriate time," Bhattacharya told a private TV channel. He said he was not aware of the nature of work in the statistics and programme implementation ministry. "My stay at Writers (Writers Buildings- the state secretariat) was temporary. My stint in the agriculture ministry was both successful and unsuccessful. Sometimes I did not get the required cooperation. I had given certain proposals to the chief minister," he said. Earlier in the day, TMC MP from Hoogly Ratna Dey Nath met him at his residence at Shibrambati village. Emerging after the hour-long meeting, Dey Nath said no one had sent her and it was a courtesy call. "I share a long relation with Mastermosai(teacher)," she said. Bhattacharya is a teacher by profession. Villagers have expressed their disappointment at the change in Bhattacharya's portfolio. "We feel sad that he is being called an old man now and that he cannot deliver," they told reporters here. Bhattacharya is popular in his locality for his pioneering role in the stir against Tata Motors small car plant that helped TMC capture power in Assembly polls in May last year ending the 34-year-long rule of Left Front in West Bengal.
